Bhubaneswar: With the 'Black Swan' event having stymied the Indian job sector last year, all attention now is riveted on the hiring scenario in the year 2021.

The moot question on every mindscape today is are the job floodgates going to open so as to re-compensate the jobs shedding that happened in the pandemic year?

What will the hiring scenario in the country, including Odisha, this year?

Which skill is going to receive the first call?

Well, the India Skills Report 2021 released recently has all the answers. Take a glance at the findings.

IS JOB - RISE ON HORIZON?

As per the report, a good 47 per cent of the Industry employers in the 2021 survey, reported a positive hiring intent while 36 per cent are looking comfortable with their existing infrastructure.

Only 17% of employers expressed a negative hiring intent, stating that they are not looking to hire at all.

Cut to the year 2020, before the pandemic struck India. A high of 56 per cent positive hiring intent recorded then. Moreover, around 28 per cent maintained their position that had no intent to increase or decrease their hiring.

Also, when last year 16 per cent of industry employers were negative in hiring, the count in 2021 jumped to 17 per cent.

The Big Takeaway: The lingering effects of the pandemic are still over the country. Therefore, the positive hiring intent of 47 per cent looks modest in comparison to 56 per cent in 2020. Also, when last year only 28 per cent said we were satisfied with the then human resources infra, the number this time is 36 per cent.

Therefore, simply put, the hiring intent in 2021 is not bullish, but also cannot be termed as bearish.

The report also said, "Considering that the hiring intent for new employees is much lower than last year, it does not complement the vast talent pool available between the ages 22-29 years old."

WILL JOBS RAIN IN ODISHA?

According to the report, the maximum hiring activity will happen this year in three states only. They are Delhi-NCR, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

But Odisha has been placed among the top 3-states, who will supply the maximum employable talent in 2021. The report named the states like Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha.

The big fact is Odisha rose to the top 3-employee supplier in the country after a gap of 6-years. The State last figured among the top-3 was in 2015.

The Big Inference: Odisha unemployment scenario looks very acute. The State this year has a vast job searcher populace, but there are no jobs for them. Migration due to job in a big way looks imminent in 2021.

WHO WILL GET THE FIRST CALL?

If the India Skills Report 2021 is to be believed, then a pharmacy diploma holder is likely to get a job this year, as Pharma and Healthcare industries in the country are bullish on hiring.

However, an engineering degree holder (not civil) is also likely to find a suitable job this year as the engineering and manufacturing industries in the country show positive intent in hiring.  (see the details in the image. the green colour stands for 2021 and orange 2020)

WHO WILL WALK WITH THE CAKE: FRESHERS OR BIG BROTHERS?

The India Skills Report 2021 reports that experienced job seekers have a better chance to get the call vis-a-vis the freshers.

As per the report, the candidate with 1-5 years experience is in maximum demand in the job market of the country.

It says, "When nearly 41 per cent of employers are looking for candidates having 1-5 years experience, only 16 per cent are looking out for freshers."

KNOW WHO ARE THE HIRERS?

As per the report, the big daddies don't show any enthusiastic intent to hire this year. It says,

" Around 63 per cent of companies with a workforce of 501-1000 employees expressed a positive hiring intent, whereas 60 per cent of small organizations with a strength of 0-500 employees showed a 63 per cent positive hiring intent."

The report then added that large corporations with a workforce of 10000+ showed only a 19 per cent positive hiring intent. It then said,

"This is a clear indication of how small and medium businesses will set the trend for the employability landscape nationwide in 2021."
