Jeypore: Rescue operations to pull out the two labourers trapped under debris at the Bariput stone quarry in Jeypore continued for the sixth consecutive day today.

While the ODRAF team and Fire Services personnel have continued the rescue work since the past five days, an NDRF team joined them last evening.

"The rescue work had to be stopped at around 6.30 pm yesterday due to the rains but resumed at 7 am today. We are hopeful that the labourers will be rescued by today evening, said Jeypore Sub-Collector Loknath Dalbehera.

“Two tehsildars from Jeypore and Kotpad have been deployed as magistrates and are present on the spot. Officials of Water Resources department and engineers are also present to monitor the rescue work closely, Dalbehera informed.

Meanwhile, four JCB machines and a stone breaker have been engaged in the ongoing rescue operation. A team of Odisha Construction Company from Cuttack has also reached the spot, reports said.

“The huge boulders are being broken down with the stone breaker and being shifted with ropes and wires. Everything is being done with utmost care to avoid crashing down of more boulders from the hilltop,” said an official.

On the other hand, family members of the two trapped workers, Ghanshyam Guru and Sanjay Das have blamed the district administration for not taking swift action to rescue the two. They demanded action against the construction company that had engaged the duo at the site.
