 Koraput:  Body of another JCB operator, trapped inside the stone quarry near Bariput of Koraput district since May 31, was recovered by a rescue team last evening.

Sources said body of the labourer identified as Sanjay Das was recovered at around 7 pm yesterday after a day-long operation of stone blasting. He was a resident of Khuntakata village in Athgarh.

As per latest reports, Sanjay's body was handed over to his family this morning. Meanwhile, villagers staged protest demanding compensation for the kin of the deceased.

Two days ago, body of JCB operator Ghanashyam Guru was recovered and handed over to his family. Though the body of Guru, a resident of Deogarh, was first spotted on June 10, the rescue team recovered it on June 13. After conducting post-mortem at the spot in presence of a Magistrate, the body was handed over to his family.

An ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh from Red Cross were provided to Guru’s family.

The two labourers were trapped inside the stone quarry on May 31 after the hill suddenly caved in while they were excavating boulders for the ongoing Telengiri Irrigation project in Bariput of Koraput district.
