Koraput: A massive operation is now underway at Bariput as two labourers are feared trapped under the debris that gathered after portion of a hill collapsed during stone mining on Thursday night.

The incident occurred when the labourers were carrying out mining activities for the Telengiri irrigation project. Two JCB machines reportedly are lying under the debris.

"The stone mining operation was on for the last two days while the mishap occurred last evening," said a local resident.

Local residents alleged that no safety precaution was undertaken during the stone mining and the rescue operations were only launched at around 8 am today.

Official sources said, fire services personnel and ODRAF teams have been engaged to carry out rescue operations.

Senior officials of district administration have also reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
