Bolangir: Trouble seems to be mounting for jailed Patnagarh BJD MLA Saroj Meher, after Praveena Rajahans, wife of PWD Junior Engineer Jaykant Sabar, whom the legislator had forced to do sit-ups for alleged poor road construction, accused supporters of the MLA of threatening her family.

Speaking to media persons, Praveena said, “Supporters of Patnagarh BJD MLA Saroj Meher are issuing threats to my family.”

No comments could be received either from the MLA or any police personnel over Praveena’s allegation.
On the other hand, a Special Judge has been appointed in Additional District and Session Court in Bhubaneswar to hear cases related to MLAs and MPs. Hearing of the Patnagarh MLA’s bail plea will also be conducted in the same court tomorrow.

The court has issued notices to the legislator, JE Jaykant Sabar, his wife Praveena Rajahans, Patnagarh SDPO and government advocate of Patnagarh ADJ asking them to remain present during the hearing of the case.

“A Special Court has been set up in Bhubaneswar to hear cases that involved MLAs and MPs. The Patnagarh MLA’s case also has been transferred to Bhubaneswar where the hearing of his bail plea will take place,” informed government advocate Ashok Mohanty.

The newly-elected MLA of the State ruling party had forced the JE to do 100 sit-ups in public for the alleged poor quality of road construction in his constituency on June 4.The matter came to light after a video of the incident went viral on social media. The JE had filed a complaint with the local police based on which MLA Saroj Meher was arrested on June 24 following hours of interrogation.
