Jawan's death sparks tension in Jajpur

Jajpur: Vehicular traffic on Baruna-Balichandrapur road in Jajpur was disrupted today after family members of a CRPF jawan who died at the SCB hospital in Cuttack on Monday staged a road blockade alleging murder and demanded compensation.

As per reports, the deceased jawan, identified as Soumyaranjan Parida, had gone with his friends to a marriage party on January 27. But he was found in a critical condition late yesterday night near his house. Upon hearing his screams for help, family members and some locals rushed to the spot and took him to the Jajpur hospital. After his condition deteriorated, Parida was shifted to the SCB hospital where he died.

Demanding the arrest of two of Parida's friends with whom he went to the marriage party, his family members and locals blocked the road by placing his body. Police and district administration officials reached the spot and pacified the agitators following which the road blockade was withdrawn.

Family members are alleging that the jawan was murdered and a case was registered regarding this. "We have detained two persons and investigation is on. Action will be taken against the accused," said Umakant Nayak, IIC, Dharmasala.
