Jawan Accused Of Raping Tribal Girl In Sundergarh Surrenders Before Police

Sundergarh: In a shocking development, a Jawan accused of raping a tribal girl in Lahunipada police limits of Sundergarh district surrendered before police on Tuesday.

The Odia Jawan, Birendra Samad, was reportedly on the run since last two months after a complaint was lodged against him at the local police station.

According to police sources, Birendra developed a physical relationship with the girl on the pretext of a false promise of marriage. He had also allegedly assured her a job in a government sector.

All this happened when the girl had gone to his aunt's place in Barkote area of Deogarh district two months back. Reportedly, Birendra fell in love with the girl and had also come to her house to assure her parents that he would marry her. He then took all her certificates with a promise that he would find a suitable job for her, the girl's family alleged.

It is also being said that the girl has undergone an abortion after she was allegedly impregnated by the Jawan.

As per sources, Birendra has been taken for a medical examination. Further investigation is underway.
