Bhubaneswar: Amid protests alleging vulgarity and obscenity in the performances of jatra troupes at Khandagiri Mela in Bhubaneswar, the Twin City Commissionerate Police today issued a directive to troupe owners to refrain from presenting such objectionable performances.

Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty stated action will be taken against jatra party owners as per law if they do not abide by the directive.

"Even though today is the last day of the Khandagiri Mela, jatra troupes have been asked to stop vulgar performances. We will call a meeting of jatra troupe owners and managers and discuss the matter. Besides, whenever the jatra organisers will present any show in future, they will be asked to follow these guidelines," Mohanty added.

Earlier in the day, Kalinga Sena members tore down the posters of several jatra troupes alleging vulgarity during on-stage performances and lodged a complaint at Khandagiri Police Station.

"We have been witnessing vulgarity in jatra performances at Khandagiri Mela. Therefore, we filed a complaint at the police station demanding arrest of jatra troupe owners and dancers presenting such objectionable performances," stated Hemant Rath, president of Kalinga Sena.
