Khurda: Vigilance sleuths today arrested the executive officer of Jatni Municipality in Khurda district while she was accepting Rs 5000 bribe.

As per the allegations, the accused identified as Lalita Kapoor had demanded a bribe amount of Rs 10,000 from one Bhikhyakari Sahu for sanctioning the latter's pending gratuity amount.

Reportedly, Sahu retired three years ago but his gratuity amount of Rs 4 lakh was pending for which Sahu was running from pillar to post. Lalita had demanded a bribe amount of Rs 10,000 to sanction the pending amount, added sources.

However, Sahu reported the matter to the Vigilance department in Khurda and a trap was laid to nab Lalita. As per the directions of the Vigilance, Sahu went to the office with the requisite amount and Lalita was caught while accepting the bribe. The accused has been arrested and forwarded to court, said a senior police official.

“A complaint was filed against Lalita Kapoor, who was seeking bribe. A trap was laid and she was caught red handed while accepting the money,” Vigilance DSP, Akshay Kumar Mishra said.

Meanwhile, the Vigilance sleuths have also conducted simultaneous raids at Lalita's office and residence.
