Bhubaneswar: It’s time to shift our focus back to T20 cricket as the build-up to the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has started with the announcement of the final auction list of players on Friday.

As many as two Odisha cricketers have been selected in the bidding list of players released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). They include the former skipper of the State T20 team and promising all-rounder Govind Poddar, and probably the best batsman of the squad Subhransu Senapati.

Poddar’s name was a surprise inclusion in the list as earlier the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) had not recommended his name to the BCCI for the bidding process.

According to BCCI sources, the base prices of the two batsmen have been fixed at Rs 20 lakh. Both of them will go under the hammer at the auction, which will be held at Chennai on February 18.

As many as 164 Indian players and 125 overseas (Total 292) cricketers will be up for grabs in the auction. Moreover, three players from Associate Nations have been included in the players’ list this season. Originally, a total of 1114 players had initially registered for the auction with the final list being prepared on the basis of shortlisted cricketers submitted by the eight franchises.

Earlier on January 22, OCA had recommended the names of as many as six State players to the BCCI for their bidding. The players included Subhransu Senapati, Rajesh Dhupar, Rajesh Mohanty, Papu Ray, Gourav Choudhury and Tarini Sa.

While Subhransu and Gourav had been recommended as batsmen, the names of Mohanty and Tarini had been sent as medium pacers. Dhupar and Papu had been categorised as wicket keeper-batsman and tweaker, respectively.
