Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued thunderstorm, lightning and intense rainfall alert for parts of as many as 14 districts of Odisha today.

As per latest forecast by the IMD, “Moderate thunderstorm with lightning and intense spells of rainfall likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda and Nayagarh between 7:30 AM and 10:30 AM.”

Yesterday, the Meteorological Centre director HR Biswas informed that the southwest monsoon is expected to hit Odisha in the next 24 hours.

The cyclonic circulation over east central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal has intensified into a low pressure system and it has strengthened the onset of monsoon over Odisha coast, he informed.

The Met department has issued heavy rainfall alert for several parts of Odisha for the next three days.
