Dhenkanal: The Sadar Police today launched a probe into the missing of an inmate of an ashram in Gobindpur area of the town after a complaint was lodged on Thursday.

As per reports, the inmate identified as Rohit Das (10), a native of Garpos area in Rajgangpur, went missing from the Kalpataru Ashram in Gobindpur since three days ago. Family members of Rohit stated that Baba Murari Das, the caretaker of the ashram, had taken their child on pretext of providing education to him. But the child was beaten up and has been missing since Wednesday.

Sources said, Baba Murari used to keep kids at the Ashram illegally and forced them to perform 'Naama Sankirtan' to earn money. After the complaint in connection with the case, the baba himself is also missing.

"I took my son to the Ashram as the baba promised to provide him education. I used to give money to the Baba frequently so that my child will be taken care of well. But now I have come to know my son was beaten up at the ashram and has been missing for past three days," said Phulatuli Rohi Das, mother of the child.

Meanwhile, local Tehslidar and police reached the Ashram and began probe into the matter.

"A case has been registered at the Sadar police station and the cops have launched a probe into the incident. It is suspected that the child might have gone somewhere out of fear," Malaya Nayak, IIC, Sadar police station, Dhenkanal.
