It may be noted that the Indian Railways had cancelled operation of all trains since enforcement of nationwide lockdown on March 22 in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic.
However looking at the huge migrant exodus, it began ferrying stranded people under its Shramik Special initiative. As per reports, so far, Indian Railways has ferried more than 21.5 lakh migrants to their home states through “Shramik Special” trains in 19 days and will operate more than 1600 Special trains in the coming days.
