Puri: Amidst the ongoing debate and unrest over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC), Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nishalananda Saraswati today threw his weight behind the idea of declaring India a ‘Hindu Rashtra.’

Talking to reporters, the Puri seer today asserted that out of the total 204 nations in the world, many have been declared as Muslim and Christian countries.

“At present there are no Hindu nations. Hence, it is the responsibility of the United Nations to declare India, Nepal and Bhutan as Hindu nations in the first phase,” said Saraswati.

The Shankaracharya further stated that the United Nations should also ensure that if Hindus in other countries are not feeling safe or persecuted, they should be rehabilitated in these three countries.

“The United Nations should come up with special facility to provide justice. Even if any Muslim feels neglected in any other country and wants to leave the particular nation, he/she should be rehabilitated in any of the Muslim nations,” the Puri seer said.

On CAA, Puri Shankaracharya said, “The present violence and unrest could have been avoided if adequate steps were taken for proper consultations, discussions and awareness before enactment."
