Bhubaneswar: The Covid-19 vaccination drive for the frontline workers has commenced from today across Odisha with senior police officers including DGP and Collectors receiving the jab at specially designated session sites in all districts.

DGP Abhay was first among the police officials to get the vaccine shot at a session site at JN Indoor Stadium in Cuttack. Expressing satisfaction over the vaccination programme, the DGP appealed to all police and other administrative officials to come forward and get vaccinated.

"The vaccination drive is one of the most significant initiatives of the government in the fight against Covid-19 diseases. I also extend my deep gratitude to all the police personnel who worked tirelessly since March last year to till now. They should all come forward to avail the benefit of free vaccination. I also took the opportunity today," DGP Abhay said.

He also extended gratitude to the local organisation, civic body and others for the smooth inoculation programme.

"I would like to thank Odisha and Central government for giving an opportunity to the police personnel to take vaccine shots. I must also thank the CMC, Health Department and local organisation for organising the immunisation programme in Cuttack in a very professional manner.

The beneficiaries enrolled for the drive are police officials and security forces engaged in containment measures apart from the armed forces personnel, sanitation workers and revenue staff.

Initially, police personnel and sanitation workers will be vaccinated.

The officials have been directed to post photo of the vaccination drive on social media to create awareness and boost self-confidence among people.
