Bhubaneswar: With the India Meteorological Department issuing Yellow Warning for thunderstorm and lightning activities for several districts of Odisha till May 6, the Special Relief Commissioner has asked the district collectors to remain alert for any eventualities.

While forecast of light to moderate rain and thundershower has been predicted, Yellow Warning for thunderstorm with gusty surface wind reaching speed up to 30 to 40 kmph have been issued for several districts of the State till May 3.

The Met department has asked the local authorities to remain prepared as there is likelihood of thundersquall activities with gusty winds blowing up to 50 to 60 kmph in the districts of Angul, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara between May 3 and 4.

The SRC has issued orange warning in view of the forecast and also suggested action for possible impact like minor damage to loose/unsecured structures, minor damage to banana trees, some damage to standing crops.

People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions and be ready to move to safer places accordingly, stated a directive issued by the SRC to all district collectors.

Similarly, yellow warning has also been issued for various other districts in the State for the next two days till May 6.
