Cuttack: Tightening noose around the organised crime, the Commissionerate Police on Sunday arrested two persons who were allegedly part of an illegal firearms racket in Cuttack.

Six firearms (Four pistols and two revolvers) and 32 rounds of ammunitions have been seized from the two accused. The police also seized a car and four mobile phones from their possession.

Two accused have been identified as Dipuna alias Ajit Ray of  Biridi, Jagatsinghpur and Papu alias Ajay Moharana from Ganjam. While 11 cases are pending against Dipu, 10 criminal cases are registered against Papu at various police stations in Cuttack and Jajpur district.

As per reports, the arms were procured from Munger in Bihar and were meant to be sold to local criminal gangs in Odisha. The Chauliaganj Police arrested the duo after getting credible intelligence input regarding their movement.

It is worthwhile to mention here that the STF has been carrying out special drives against organised crime syndicates operating from different parts of the State. Already 22 fire arms, 54 rounds of live ammunition have been seized and 7 criminals arrested in such drives in the past one year by STF.

On April 9, the Crime Branch STF arrested two arms smugglers following a raid near Sikharghat bridge under Niali police limits in Cuttack district and recovered eight illegal pistols, including two sophisticated ones and 20 live ammunition from their possession.
