Cuttack: Cracking whip on the rampant illegal gun trade in the Silver City of the State, the Commissionerate Police on Tuesday busted another gang involved in the criminal activity.

Seven country guns, 35 bullets, other weapons and a car were seized while 12 persons including a home guard involved in the racket were arrested during raids at various places in the city.

Speaking to OTV about the operation that led to the seizure of the arms, Additional DCP of Cuttack, Trinath Mishra said, “We received information from reliable sources that some people from Jagatsinghpur had arrived in the city to supply guns. On the basis of the input, our IICs swung into action and arrested 12 criminals and seized seven guns and 35 rounds of bullets.”

“A home guard working at Tirtol police station was also part of the gang. Bullets were also seized from him and he has also been arrested. Further investigation is underway to find out whether he was earlier involved in any such criminal activities,” Mishra said.

Police suspect that the gang has links with gangster brothers – Sushil and Sushant Dhalasamanta. A few days ago, a special team of cops had seized a massive haul of illegal arms and ammunition hidden inside the residence of the notorious brothers at CDA area in the city. Three associates of D-brothers were also arrested.

"Whether the gang arrested today has any connection with Dhalasamanta case will only be clear after completion of the investigation,” Mishra told reporters.

According to Mishra, the guns were procured from Munger of Bihar and being sold for Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 a piece. The gun traders supply two-three rounds of bullets to the buyers as samples along with the guns.
