Delhi: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association (IIMCAA) organised its seventh edition of the national-level alumni meet - Connections 2019, at its headquarters in New Delhi on Sunday and conferred the IFFCO IIMCAA awards on its members for their contribution to journalism.

During the convention, 35 mass communication professionals were awarded the IFFCO IIMCAA awards. While the Alumni of the Year award was presented to Nandita Venkatesan, Meenakshi Gupta was felicitated in Public Service category. Prabir Pradhan from News 18 Odia and Jajati Karan, Editor-in-Chief of OMMCOM NEWS in Odisha received awards under Crime Reporting and Digital Production content, respectively. Itishree Singh Rathaur from My City Links received the award for development journalism, while Jayajit Dash from Business Standard, social media consultant Avilash Panigrahi and Rudra Prasanna Rath received the awards in Economic & Business reporting, Image Building and Social Media Campaign, respectively.

After the National-level meet, the IIMCAA will hold Chapter-level meets in more than 15 cities including Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Lucknow, Patna, Chandigarh, Raipur, Kolkata, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Singapore and Dhaka during the next two months.

The meet kicked off with a two-minute silence as a mark of tribute to the CRPF soldiers who were martyred in Pulwama attack followed by a ‘Kavi Sammelan’, with Prof Waseem Barelwi, Dr Nawaz Deobandi, Poet Gajendra Solanki and Dr Praveen Shukla presenting their poems in memory of the jawans.

KG Suresh, Director General of IIMC shed light on various initiatives executed and milestones achieved by the institute. He also announced that IIMC has also received a letter of intent for deemed university status.

IIMCAA president Prasad Sanyal announced that the institute will soon start IIMCAA Medical Assistance and scholarship for IIMC students every year.
