Bhubaneswar: A senior police official of the Laxmipur police station in Koraput district has been placed under suspension for alleged negligence in duty that led to escape of a suspected ganja peddler.

As per reports, on the intervening night of July 11 and 12 police officials detained a truck that was reportedly carrying ganja. However due to 'suspected and deliberate negligence of the IIC' the detained driver could manage to escape, read a statement from the department

The IIC also did not bother to report the matter to SDPO or SP Koraput.After an inquiry into the incident, the SP Koraput submitted a report to DGP R P Sharma following which the officer was placed under suspension.

"The official has been suspended for his gross misconduct in exhibiting suspicious and lackadaisical attitude in dealing with an important NDPS case," the statement said.

During the period, the suspended Inspector Jagannath Acharya, IIC of Laxmipur Police Station will remain under the disciplinary control of D.I.G of Police, South Western Range, Koraput.
