Nabarangpur: After drawing flak from different quarters for his instigating comments, Congress leader and former MP Pradip Majhi today released a statement to All India Congress Committee (AICC), through Pradesh Congress Committee, explaining his behaviour.

Speaking to OTV, Majhi said that due to rise in cases of violence against women in undivided Koraput district, he lost his patience & made such statements. "Henceforth, I will work as per the party ideology," said the former Congress MP.

Nabarangpur Police on Friday registered a suo-motu case against Majhi for purportedly provoking supporters to carry out arson attack while staging protest against alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in Kosagumuda area on December 14.

Earlier on Thursday, Majhi was heard telling party workers to set ablaze everything after getting orders. The matter came to fore after a video of the phone conversation during a bandh call by the party in Nabarangpur surfaced on social media. Following the incident, the State unit of Congress had sought an explanation from Majhi.

Speaking about Majhi's explanation, Congress Chief Niranjan Patnaik said, "We have received Pradip Majhi's explanation over his inflammatory remarks and will send them to AICC; even though I am not supporting Pradip Majhi, Biju Babu had once said about beating up government officers, but how many cases were filed?"
