Bhadrak: Hundreds of unexpired folic acid syrup bottles were found dumped near a pond close to Chandanpur anganwadi centre at Basudevpur in Bhadrak district.

According to sources, the State government provides folic acid syrup bottles for free. While the dumped bottles have an expiry date of November 2018, it is yet to be ascertained under what circumstances the bottles were discarded and by whom.

While some villagers alleged that the medicines were being destroyed rather than being distributed to needy patients, others alleged that the anganwadi centre workers have dumped the medicines.

"The anganwadi centre workers have thrown these medicines. Stern action must be taken against them," said a villager, Sanjay Biswal.

"We came to know about this recently. We have no idea who threw this here. We don't provide such medicine at anganwadi centre," said an anganwadi worker, Swadhineswari Behera.

On the other hand, Basudevpur Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Janaki Das has assured that action will be taken against those who threw the unexpired medicine.

"There will be an investigation into the matter and appropriate action will be taken against those responsible," Das said.
