Jeypore: A 14-year-old student from Tikiri area under Kashipur block of Koraput district got a new lease of life after hundreds of jelly-like cysts were removed from his stomach through a rare surgery on Tuesday.

When the student, Amaresh Sahu complained of stomach ache and developed swelling, his family members admitted him to the Koraput District Headquarters Hospital. After an ultrasound test was carried out, doctors found that cysts had developed in his stomach.

Professor Jagadananda Mishra, head of the Surgery department and doctor I. Gopal operated on the student successfully and removed the cyst on Tuesday.

“Amaresh had developed a hydatid cyst. Persons who come in contact with dogs get affected by the disease. The operation has been successful and his condition is stable,” said Mishra.
