Balasore: Despite assurance of finding a concrete solution regarding unclaimed bodies being dumped in open near Mukti Dwara crematorium in Balasore, the district administration is yet to get its act together.

In a recent report, OTV had highlighted how human corpses were being dumped in a huge pit near Mukti Dwara crematorium situated near Nunia Jodi bridge. According to locals, dead bodies, mostly the unclaimed and unidentified ones, were reportedly being dumped near the open ground either by police or hospitals for the last several years.

After the news was telecast, the Balasore district administration assured that necessary steps would be taken so that the last rites of unclaimed bodies are conducted in a dignified manner. However, no steps have been taken so far, which has now irked the local residents.

“The officials have failed to keep their promise. If a living person is not getting his/her rights, who would care for the dead?” alleged a local resident.

Many believe that the problem can be resolved with a little cooperation between various departments as the corpses can be sent to medical colleges where they can be used by students for anatomy purposes.
