Nayagarh: Huge stash of drugs with government stamps were found dumped under a bridge in Gochabari area under Khandapada police limits in Nayagarh district today morning. While some of the dumped medicines were expired, many of them are good stock.

The matter came to light after a few locals spotted the medicines and informed the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO). However, it is still unclear about who had dumped the medicines under the bridge.

Meanwhile, the district health officer Swetaprakash Mahapatra has ordered an investigation into the matter.

"The medicines will be examined following which we can establish whether the drugs are from government stock or were dumped by someone else," said Mahapatra.

The incident has raised questions on the implementation of State government's Niramaya scheme as many patients had earlier complained of unavailability of free medicines under the scheme.

A resident of Gochabari, Arun Sahu said, "The medicines have government logo in it and some of them are good stock. When people are struggling to get free government medicines, drugs worth lakhs of rupees are being dumped like this."
