Berhampur: Even as the law enforcement forces in Odisha are cracking down on ganja smugglers every other day in the State, they are adapting new methods, leaving the agencies startled.

This time, a team of police officials seized a huge cache of ganja (dry cannabis) covered by PPE kits while it was being transported in an ambulance near Budhamba under Kabisuryangar Police limits in Ganjam district Sunday evening.

Kabisuryangar Police has also arrested two persons involved in smuggling of the contraband item. The exact amount of ganja seized and identity of the arrested persons are yet to be revealed by the police.

As per reports, the Kabisuryangar Police was patrolling near Budhamba police outpost yesterday evening when it intercepted the ambulance. They later searched the vehicle and seized the narcotics.

The ambulance was reportedly heading towards Kodala from Digapahandi, said reports.

Further investigation into the case is under by the Kabisuryangar Police.

In a related incident, the Excise department officials today seized seven quintals of ganja during a raid at Sargiguda village in Malkangiri district. The market value of the seized ganja is stated to be around worth Rs 50 lakh.

Three peddlers have also been arrested and taken for interrogation in connection with the matter, added reports.
