Angul: The Angul district administration has seized huge quantities of firecrackers during a raid in Ward No-13 under Talcher Municipality area here on Tuesday night.

The move came hours after the Odisha Government prohibited the sale and bursting of firecrackers between November 10 and 30 in view of the Covid 19 pandemic.

Acting on a tip-off, a team headed by Talcher Sub-Collector Rajnikant Swain, Tehsiladar Gauri Nayak, Municipality Executive Officer (EO) Atasi Parida and Sadar Police Station IIC Satyabrata Rout conducted raids in a house at Hatatota Sahi and a shop in Badabazaar area yesterday night and recovered around two trucks load of firecrackers.

However, any arrest has not been made in connection with the incident yet.

The official notification issued by the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC) office stated that considering the potentially harmful effects of the fumes emanating from firecrackers on people with respiratory problems and co-morbidities– especially during the COVID-19 pandemic situation and the onset of winter– the sale and bursting of firecrackers will be prohibited between November 10 and 30.

Anyone found violating the orders of the Government shall be punished as per the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other relevant laws, said the notification.
