Kendrapara: Avoiding all the grandeur & glitter associated with a modern-day marriage ceremony, a man from Odisha walked on foot for 5 kilometres to marry a woman in a unique procession.
The groom Amitabh Chaudhary started his walk from Narayanpur to marry Pratibha Jena in Kendrapara.
Despite a strong financial background, Chaudhary avoided a big fat wedding and chanted 'vedic mantras' & 'shlokas' while Telingi instrument was played during the marriage procession.
"The main aim was to bring back the old vedic rituals in marriages which will set a new example for the society. People waste a lot of money these days in marriages," Chaudhary said.
Even Chaudhary's in-laws including the bride lauded his unique initiative.
"I am very happy about my husband's decision to carry out such a procession without any noise. No one has ever done such a thing before. With the chants of the vedas, it felt very pure," the bride said.
Creating awareness on environment was also another objective of the marriage where all the guests were given saplings to plant.
