Bhubaneswar: Thousands of depositors duped in the multi-crore chit fund scam in Odisha today sat on an indefinite dharna at the Lower PMG alleging sheer apathy of the State government towards their plight.

The duped investors also alleged that the government had earlier promised to refund money within a specific period of time; however, identification of the depositors is yet to be completed.

"I had deposited Rs 1 lakh and about Rs 4 to Rs 5 lakh was deposited by some other people on my direction. Now those people, whom I had told to deposit, are threatening me to either return the money or face consequence. From where do I refund their money when I have nothing...," lamented a depositor.

Odisha government left no stone unturned to make KALIA scheme successful overnight. The beneficiaries were identified within no time. But it seems government is not interested to refund money of chit fund depositors, alleged another investor.

"We will continue our protest till the government identify all the small and big duped depositors," said another victim of the chit fund, adding that they are feeling helpless and hopeless.

Meanwhile, State Finance Minister Shashi Bhusan Behera said that Odisha government has already begun the process of refund to small depositors.

"A thorough identification of the depositors is going on due to which the process is getting delayed, but the allegations that no one (duped investors) has been refunded yet is false," said Behera.
