Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre here today predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall for several parts of Odisha till Friday due to the formation of a fresh low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.

The low pressure area, formed over east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, is likely to become more marked and concentrate into a depression in next 36-hours, the Meteorological Centre here said.

Under its impact, heavy rainfall is likely to occur in some places over coastal districts of the state on Wednesday.

Similarly, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to lash some places in south and coastal parts with possibility of extremely heavy rainfall in some places of Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Koraput districts on Thursday and Friday, it said.

Thereafter, the intensity of rainfall is likely to decline with the likelihood of downpour in isolated places of Nuapada, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi and north interior region of the state.

In view of adverse weather conditions, the meteorological department has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast till Friday.

The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has asked the collectors of Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Koraput, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi to remain alert in view of any eventuality.

The fresh spell of low pressure has taken shape after Odisha was battered by heavy downpour due to a series of low pressure since beginning of August.
