Keonjhar: Heavy rain since last night has thrown life out of gear in Anandpur of Keonjhar district. A flood-like situation has also cropped up in Biridiha, Kantipal, Taratara, Kathakata and Baladuan areas in the district.

One sluice gate of Remal Dam had to be opened today to flush out excess floodwater following incessant rain in upper catchment areas of Mahanadi basin since yesterday.

As a result, communication at Jalasuan village under Anandapur tehsil was cut-off as 4-feet water was flowing on the Sailanga-Deula road, reports said.

On the other, the district administration has alerted the people of the low-lying areas of the dam to remain alert.

"We have directed the Anandapur Block Development Officer (BDO) and Tehsildar to remain alert and they are monitoring the situation to tackle the situation accordingly," informed Anandapur Sub Collector, Tapan Nayak.

Nayak further informed that Pandua village in the district is now inundated and the people have been brought to a relief camp where they are being provided with cooked food and other relief materials.

"Pandua and Baliposi villages in Anandapur have been inundated. We have rescued the people and kept them in relief camps where they are being provided with food," informed Anandapur BDO, Umakanta Parida.
