Jagatsinghpur: Taking care of parents in their old age is the responsibility of every child. But, nowadays several instances are coming to the fore where children are considering their elderly parents as burden and torturing them. Recently, such a heart-wrenching incident has come to light in Ersama area of Jagatsinghpur district where an elderly couple left their home after they were allegedly tortured by their son.

As per reports, 85-year-old Dasa Pradhan, a resident of Chasagadia village in Ersama was being allegedly tortured by his son. As alleged by Pradhan, his son repeatedly harassed and tortured all family members. Unable to bear repeated torture, Pradhan decided to left his home.

“Unable to bear the torture of my son, I left home. He is an alcoholic and beats us frequently in inebriated condition. Though he has no income source, he spends around Rs 500 a day. He snatches away my pension money and sells rice which we purchase with a ration card,” Pradhan said.

Later, Pradhan was rescued by some social activists from a roadside near Badapadia market in a helpless condition.

“He doesn’t want to return back to his home and is insisting to relocate him to an old-age home. With the help of police, we are trying to shift him to an old-age home,” informed a rescuer Debakalyan Mahapatra.

Earlier, over repeated harassment and torture of his son, Pradhan’s wife had shifted to their daughter’s house while his daughter-in-law and grandson moved to their maternal village, informed sources.
