Jagatsinghpur: The head of the district police unit here on Monday suspended the havildar of Jatadhari Muhan Marine Police Station in Paradip, Bidyadhar Parida for thrashing a 12-year-old boy from Sandhakuda slum while he was out to fetch some water from a nearby tubewell last evening.

As per a complaint by the parents of the boy, two men in uniform were passing through the area on a bike when they saw their kid walking and immediately went on a charge.

One of the havildar later identified as Bidyadhar, who was riding a pillion reportedly took out a plastic baton and launched a sharp blow on the boy. The stick hit the boy’s neck and he lost consciousness at the spot itself. Later some locals picked up the injured boy and admitted him to Atharabanki Hospital.

When queried by newsmen about the incident, the IIC of the concerned police station clarified that the boy was beaten as he was not wearing his mask.

However, after an investigation into the incident following a complaint, Jagatsinghpur SP has placed the accused havildar under suspension with immediate effect.
