Paradip: In an unfortunate incident, a minor boy lost his life after being hit by a truck near Phulabelari area on Cuttack-Paradip road this morning. The deceased Kanhu was studying in Class V.

The stone chips-laden Haiwa truck reportedly knocked down three children while they were riding bicycles on their way to attend tuition early in the morning. While one of them died on the spot after being crushed under the wheels of the speeding truck, two others sustained critical injuries in the mishap. They were initially rushed to Kujang Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment and later shifted to SCB hospital in Cuttack as their condition deteriorated.

Soon after the incident, irate locals along with the family members of the victims detained the truck and staged a road blockade demanding compensation. After police detained the truck driver for interrogation, it was found that he was driving the vehicle in an inebriated state.

Keeping in view the palpable tension in the area, one platoon police force has been deployed to avoid any untoward incident.
