Bhubaneswar: Geetanjali Biswal, wife of Biban Biswal, the prime accused in the Anjana Mishra gang rape case, has rubbished the claims of the Commissionerate Police that Biban was in touch with his family over the last 22 years.

"He (Biban) was neither with us nor did he have any contact with any of our family members. He had remained incommunicado for the last 22 years. We had no contacts with him ever since he left home," said Geetanjali on Tuesday while reacting to the police claims.

Following the arrest of Biban alias Bibekanand Biswal from Maharashtra on Monday, Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi had stated that the accused used to send money to his family regularly while he was hiding with an assumed identity.

Countering Sarangi’s assertions that Biban sent money to the family at regular intervals,

Geetanjali said she did not receive a single penny from him in all these years.
"I had to sell my landed properties to raise my children. I did not get any monetary help from him," she said.

On claims that Biban had asked his family to obtain his death certificate in order to evade arrest, Geetanjali said the family had in fact applied for a certificate following her father-in-laws’s death.

While giving details about Biban’s arrest, Sarangi had said that the absconding accused who lived at Aamby Vally in Maharashtra was in touch with his family members and even asked them to release his death certificate, ostensibly to evade arrest.

The police Commissioner had also said that Biswal was working as a plumber by changing his identity and prepared identity documents like an Aadhar card using his assumed name, Jalandhar Swain. He had even opened a bank account by using the fake documents.
