Jajpur: Palpable tension prevailed at the Lankabalisahi village under Sadar police limits of the district after a group clash erupted between two families of the village over an alleged love affair.

According to sources, miscreants set afire the house of an elderly woman over involvement of her son in an alleged love affair with a girl of another family of the same village.

Reportedly the couple has been absconding since November 26, but the police are yet to trace their whereabouts. Following the incident, the family members of the girl reportedly set afire the house of the youth leaving his lone mother homeless.

"Miscreants have burnt my house and my son is also not present. I have nowhere to go," an anxious mother of the absconding youth said.

The villagers allege inaction by the police as they are yet to take any step to trace the absconding couple and arrest the accused involved in violence.

"We are having a horrifying time as the miscreants are creating violence in the village. They have threatened to kill some other villagers if their girl is not found, said a villager.

On the other hand police sources informed that a case has been registered at the Sadar Police Station and investigation into the incident is on.

"A probe is underway into the incident and raids have been conducted at several places to trace the absconding duo, Inspector In-Charge of Sadar police station, Dushmant Kumar Nayak said.
