Bhawanipatna: Despite a massive crackdown by Odisha government, a complete check on corruption seems to be a challenging task as a Gramarakhi in Dharmagarh area of Kalahandi district was arrested on Thursday on the charges of taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 from murder accused.

As per reports, the Gramarakhi Akshay Durga had allegedly taken a bribe of Rs 50,000 from one Brushabh Rana who was among the six persons earlier detained by police in connection with a murder case in Bhairi village on August 19.

Assuring the suspects of settling the probe, Akshaya had demanded Rs 50,000 on the pretext that the money will be shared with all police officials. The matter came to light after two of the suspects detained in the case were arrested.

The complainant Brushabh Rana said, “Gramarakhi Akshay Durga asked us to pay Rs. 50,000 to settle the case. We somehow managed to arrange the money and gave him. After the arrest of two persons, we approached the station-in-charge, but he feigned ignorance about the incident.”

The Gramarakhi, on the other hand, claimed that the Sub-Inspector K.P Pujhari had asked him to collect the money.
"After receiving the money, I deposited it with Mr. Pujhari inside his cabin. On his direction, four youths were released while two persons were produced before court. I only received Rs. 1500 for it," said the Gramarakhi.

Laxmi Narayan Panda, DSP of Dharmagarh said, “After getting a complaint, the accused Gramarakhi has been arrested. Kalahandi SP has sought a detailed report in connection with the incident."
