Bhubaneswar: The Customs Department officials on Thursday seized 355.120 grams gold worth over Rs 11 lakh from a passenger at Biju Patnaik International Airport here. This is the fifth incident of seizure of gold at Bhubaneswar airport since March this year.

Acting on a tip off, customs officials at the airport intercepted a passenger of Indian origin, hailing from Kozhikode (Kerala), who arrived from Bangkok by Air India flight AI-339 today.

Later, the officials seized the precious metal in the form of powder from his possession.

As per the official release of the custom department, four oval shape capsules were concealed inside the person's rectum which was detected during frisking.

After opening the four capsules, brown colour paste was found inside the pack and gold was recovered mixed in powder form.

The brown paste was then sent to laboratory where it was confirmed that the powder in the paste form was gold of foreign origin.
