Dhenkanal: Demanding basic amenities, inmates of the ladies hostel of Dhenkanal Autonomous College launched a protest today by locking the main gate of the college.

As per reports, the boarders of the ladies hostel resorted to agitation and locked the main gate of the college today claiming that their complaints regarding water shortage and electricity problems fell on deaf ears.

The inmates alleged that there is an acute shortage of water in their hostel and they are not even getting sufficient water for drinking let alone for bathing and dishwashing.

Electricity is another concern for the boarders. Repeated complaints regarding this to the college authorities have gone unheard, alleged the agitating students.

Anita, a hostel inmate said, "We don't get water to brush our teeth or bath in the morning. We have been complaining for five years, but our grievances aren't reaching the Principal of the college."

"We don't want to cause inconvenience to anybody, but the situation is dire and we want our demand to be fulfilled as soon as possible," said another boarder.

The administrative officer of the college, Ranjit Pradhan said "We have taken this issue seriously and even provided a water tanker, but they have some other issues as well. We assure that we will discuss and address their demands as per the rules."
