Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has submitted necessary documents sought by the Centre for the geographical indication (GI) status to Rasagola, stated Minister for Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Prafulla Samal today.

Speaking on the sidelines of a programme in Bhubaneswar, the minister said all required documents were submitted before August 21. “We have complied with all the requirements. The Odisha Small Industries Corporation (OSIC) managing director himself presented the 14-point checklist before the Centre,” he added.

In February, Odisha government had applied for the Geographical Indication tag for 'Odishara Rasagola.'

The state moved the GI Registry for its own version of the popular sweet almost three months after West Bengal was awarded GI tag for 'Banglar Rasogolla.'
