Bhubaneswar: The fears of a Covid-19 resurgence started haunting Odisha on Friday when the daily positive tally in the State crossed the 100 mark after a hiatus of over a month.

As many as 110 fresh cases have been detected in the State in the last 24 hours. With the inclusion of the new cases, the State’s  total caseload has surged to 3,38,599.

Of the total fresh cases, while 64 cases were identified from quarantine, 46 were local contact cases. Currently, the number of active cases in the State stands at 705. As many as 3,35,923 patients have recovered from the infection so far.

According to the State Information and Public Relation (I&PR) Department reports, the highest number of 20 fresh cases were detected from Cuttack. Khordha reported the second highest 15 during the period.

Earlier on Thursday, as many as 13 persons in a private college under the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) had tested positive for Covid-19.

A day before, 12 students of the same college had tested positive for the virus. Following the incident, contact tracing of the infected students was carried out as per the protocols issued by the Health department and 71 more underwent rapid antigen tests. Later, test reports of 13 more persons came out to be positive. With this a total of 25 persons of the college have tested Covid positive so far.

Two employees of TATA Power Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) in Berhampur had also tested positive for Coronavirus on Thursday.

As per the latest data, to date, a total of 10.42 lakh people in Odisha have taken the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. The second dose has been administered to nearly 3.5 lakh.
