Berhampur: Taking serious note of the poor performances of schools in annual BSE Class 10 (Matric) Examinations 2019, the Ganjam district administration has imposed ban on the use of mobile phones in school classrooms across the district.
After a directive issued by district Collector, Vijay Amruta Kulange, school teachers are now not being allowed to use cell phones in class rooms during the teaching hours. However, in case of emergency, teachers are being given leeway to use their phones in the common room only.
"I have directed the teachers not to use mobile phones in class rooms. They can use mobiles for official purposes in the office rooms and in case of any emergency they can use it in staff common room," Kulange told OTV.
Meanwhile, the district administration's decision to ban use of cell phones inside classrooms has been highly appreciated and welcomed by both the teachers and students.
"The district collector, during a meeting on June 13, advised us not to use mobile phones in the class rooms. We welcomed his decision and teachers in our school are sincerely following the new rule," said Kali Charan Pradhan, Headmaster in-charge of C T High School, Berhampur.
Gaurimani Patra, a teacher of VV Giri Govt Girls' High School in Berhampur, said, "It is a very good initiative undertaken by the District Collector. Since teachers get disturbed easily when someone calls them during the classes, the new rule will help them fully concentrate on the teaching."
Asked about benefits of mobile ban in the class rooms, a student said, "The decision has helped them focus more due to better alertness of the teachers and consequently classes are now running smoothly."
