Cuttack: The Jagatpur police today took arrested gangster Syed Usman Ali alias Tito on two days remand in connection with firing on contractor Mohammad Tahir Ali Khan in Cuttack on March 28.

The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Salepur allowed Jagatpur police to take Tito on remand. The gangster will be produced in the concerned court again on August 27 after the end of the remand period, informed sources.

Earlier today, Tito was produced before the Court after Jagatpur Police found clues of his involvement in the case.

As per the case no. 60/18 lodged at Jagatpur police station, Tahir sustained critical injuries after some miscreants open fired at him at Golei Chhak near Jagatpur Irrigation North Division office in Cuttack district on March 28 over a tender-related dispute.

Sources said, the miscreants were threatening Tahir for participating in the tender process of a canal renovation work under the jurisdiction of Jagatpur Irrigation (North) division. They were also allegedly demanding extortion from him after he got the tender.

Earlier, the cops had also arrested six persons involved in the incident. Police will be interrogating Tito in order to elicit vital information from him in connection with the case, informed sources.
