Bhubaneswar: Opposition parties including BJP and the Congress on Friday mounted attack on Odisha government alleging links of ruling-BJD leaders with arrested gangster Sayed Usman Ali alias Tito.
Alleging that the gangster Tito has links with terrorists, BJP's Odisha unit secretary Lekhashree Samantsinghar today accused Odisha government of trying to shield its leaders by handing over the probe to the special task force (STF) of Crime Branch.
At a presser held today, Samantsinghar stated that both gangster Tito and the recently arrested terrorist handler Habibur Rahman hail from Kendrapara.
Apprehending that links of BJD leaders with antisocial elements will be exposed, Odisha government conspired to suppress such matter by handing over the probe to STF.
“Odisha police is somewhere involved in shielding terrorists and criminals. Besides, the government is trying to cover up BJD leaders' links with Tito. Hence, we are demanding CBI probe into the crime syndicate of gangster Tito and the NIA should be entrusted with investigation of all aspects related to the arrest of LeT operative Rahman,” said Samantsinghar.
On the other hand, a Congress delegation today met Crime Branch, STF DIG and sought an impartial probe into the alleged links of BJD's Badchana MLA, Amar Satpathy with gangster Tito.
A 30-member Congress delegation alleged that crores of rupees were looted due to illegal sand mining activities at Alamgiri, Achyutbasant, Majhipada, Chandia, Manduka Pahada and Balikuda sand quaries under Badachana constituency.
“All such operations were carried out without any licence and it is surprising that forest, revenue and district police officials remained a mute spectator. Such illegal activities were carried out by government officials at the behest of Badachana MLA,” said OPCC General Secretary, Suvendu Mohanty.
BJD MLA Amar Satpathy on the other hand stated that the investigating agency is probing all aspects and it should be allowed to conduct a detailed investigation.
“At a time when an inquiry is on, it should be allowed to be completed. Those who are bringing such allegations are doing so for their own political gains,” said Satpathy.
