Cuttack: The Odisha government on Thursday announced that Corona Warriors including doctors and other frontline health workers will get COVID-19 vaccine free of cost in the State. Informing this development, the State Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Das said that the vaccination against coronavirus is likely to begin from January 2021.

While talking to reporters in Cuttack, Das informed that already Centre has issued a detailed guideline for the COVID-19 vaccination drive. Several committees including one headed by the Chief Secretary and others in the district and block level have been constituted in this regard.

“Doctors, health workers who are our Corona Warriors and elderly persons in Odisha will be administered COVID-19 vaccine free of cost. In the second phase, we have urged Centre to vaccinate Municipality and drinking water and other public health workers in the State,” said Das.

According to Das, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had earlier announced to give priority to senior citizens, who are the most vulnerable category, in the proposed vaccination drive against COVID-19.

As per plans, the Odisha government has targeted to vaccinate 3.20 lakh beneficiaries, mostly health care workers will be vaccinated in the first phase in Odisha.

As per the Centre’s guidelines, priority will be given on vaccinating health and frontline workers and vulnerable groups including people over 65-years of age and others having comorbidities.

Health and Family Welfare Department Director Bijay Kumar Panigrahi had earlier informed that there are 1222 cold chains for the preservation of the COVID-19 vaccine, 1796 ILR for transportation and 1772 freezers in the State.
