Rourkela: In a tragic incident, four kanwariyas were killed after being hit by a train on Brahmani bridge, a few metres away from Panposh railway station in Rourkela last night. Three others, are however, safe.

The deceased belonging to one family were residents of Bhilai area of Chhattisgarh. They were identified as Nilesh Das, Jamuna Das, Lucky Das and Ram Barosa.

The mishap occurred when seven kanwariyas of a family were walking on the bridge to reach Vedavyas temple to pour holy water.

According to reports, a train coming from Panposh station at around 11.30 pm hit the kanwariyas killing four persons on the spot.

While bodies of two persons were recovered from the spot, two others fell into the river water. Later ODRAF personnel launched a search operation and fished out the two bodies from the river water.

Three others of the family are safe.
