Parlakhemundi: A former councillor has been arrested by the Parlakhemundi police for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to kill an MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly).
The accused identified as G.Bijay Kumar has been forwarded to the court, informed sources.
A complaint was filed by the concerned MLA based on a voice recording in which the accused is allegedly heard saying that he will execute the murder for money.
Based on the recording, Police registered a case and started investigation.
Kumar is also accused of extortion & misbehaving with another person, informed sources.
"A case has been registered against the former councillor based on a audio recording. During the investigation we had enough evidence against him for arrest," Sub Divisional Police Officer of Parlakhemundi, Thakur Patra said.
Meanwhile, the accused has refuted the allegations.
"Not a single case has been registered against me. My arrest is politically motivated," Kumar said.
