Bhubaneswar: As many as five children working as labourers were rescued by the officials of Bhubaneswar Childline from Balipatana area of Khurda district on Saturday.

Sources said all the children hail from Samastipur district of Bihar and were engaged as labourers to sell 'Pani Puri' in different places in Balipatana area.

Acting on a tip-off, three teams of Bhubaneswar Childline along with local police conducted raids in different places in Balipatna area and rescued five children from College square.

"After receiving information about the children engaged in selling pani puri in Balipatana, we raided the area with the help of local police and rescued five children," informed an official of Bhubaneswar Childline.

The children were subsequently produced before Khurda Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and sent to Open Shelter of Bhairabi Club at Jatni.

Meanwhile, Balipatna Police has detained one Bhola Sani of Bihar for engaging the children as labourers and two other persons for providing a house to Sani on rent illegally.
