Cuttack: A day after a fire broke out at the BSNL office in Cuttack, mobile, internet and banking services were disrupted in several districts of Odisha.

As per reports, while BSNL subscribers are unable to make calls and get internet access on their mobile phones, work has been severely affected in various government offices including Cuttack RTO and Keonjhar sub-registrar offices.

“We are facing extreme difficulties as we are unable to make phone calls. ATMs are also not working at many places,” said a BSNL customer.

A Keonjhar resident, Alok Kumar Jena said, “Due to link failure we are not getting basic services since yesterday.”

Meanwhile, BSNL employees are engaged in restoration work in Cuttack and the Office of the AGM Transmission has informed that mobile services have been restored in Keonjhar, Angul and Dhenkanal districts.

“In total, 9 districts were affected. Communication in 5 districts is getting normal while 4 districts of erstwhile undivided Cuttack are yet to get the service,” an official of the AGM Transmission office said.

General Manager of BSNL, Prasanta Kumar Mohapatra said that efforts are underway to restore mobile services in the affected districts.

“Power cables gutted in short circuit will be replaced. By tomorrow, broadband and mobile services will be restored. Fixing landline services will take a few more days,” said Mohapatra.
