Nabarangpur: An FIR has been registered against Nabarangpur RTO Ganeswar Kanhar on charges of accepting bribe from a contractual employee on the pretext of providing a permanent job.

The matter came to the fore following a written complaint lodged by one Akash Harijan. As per reports, police have registered the FIR under various sections of the CrPC, the investigation of which has been entrusted with a DSP level official.

Akash had alleged that Kanhar took bribe from him on the pretext of making his temporary job into a permanent one. “Kanhar even threatened to kill me if I didn’t stop asking for refund,” said Akash.

Akash, who is a resident of Badakumuli village, was reportedly working with the RTO as a contractual data entry operator when, as per his allegations, Kanhar along with the Head Clerk took Rs 45,000 from him as a bribe to get him a permanent job in the department.

Later, when Akash went to enquire about the delay in his employment and demanded the RTO to return his money, the official seemed careless. In a video of the encounter between the RTO and Akash, the official was seen purportedly accepting that he had taken Rs 30,000 from him and asking another staff of the office to settle the score with Akash by returning him Rs 15,000.

Soon after the video of the incident went viral on social media, the district Congress issued a warning to hit streets demanding immediate arrest of the RTO.
